Children and young people will create a predominantly text-base game, aimed at giving so-called reluctant readers a reading-for-pleasure alternative that they will thoroughly enjoy. There will be an option to have the text narrated and the dialogue performed by voice actors. As well as text, the game will have illustrations, animations, puzzles, and mini-games as a reward for progress.
Young storytellers, gamers, coders, writers and artists are working together to devise, write, illustrate and publish an interactive fantasy gamebook, both in print and online.
Theatre of the Air was an Arts Council funded project which brought together a group of theatre practitioners who had been unable to practise their craft due to the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020. Participants collaborated with our staff to create an audio drama based on the folklore of Wiltshire. The project culminated in the launch of a new audio theatre company, which they also called Theatre of the Air.
We worked with 63 young people aged 11 – 19 from 3 schools to support them to create an interactive, illustrated gamebook for tablet and smartphone. Young people took part in plotting, writing, illustrating, app design and coding workshops. Young people worked with professional writers, illustrators, musicians and developers. The final game is available on the iOS App Store and Google Play.
